Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at Brand New Stadium

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs prolonged their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender thought he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, missed a handful of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the referee ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in an illegal position and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's team up to third in the division, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

Everton stay in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Spurs breakdown: Van de Ven excels in duties at each end of the field

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against the French side, where they mustered a only attempts on target, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward Richarlison.

The new arrival was failed to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the end.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the six-yard box for an free the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - stepping up as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his second in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, combining well with his defensive colleague as the pair handled superbly with the 34 crosses sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have faded slightly and fans headed to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had scored only one league goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that poor tally on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from close range, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after replacing the starter in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Spurs box.
