The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
